Transferring to WMU is a smart plan

WMU is smart choice for top students
With its focus on student success, Western Michigan University continues to attract top students from around the globe who enjoy all the resources of a national research university on a campus known for its small college feel.

WMU is learner centered, discovery driven and globally engaged. Student success—the edge that comes from being a WMU student—is enhanced by the wealth of resources that can only be found at school known internationally for its research, creative activities and scholarship. That reputation gives special value to a WMU degree.

Renowned programs, unmatched opportunities for success
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has classified WMU as one of the nation’s major public research universities. It offers an academic climate with the top-notch programs, faculty, facilities and hands-on learning opportunities that students need to prepare for and excel in graduate school or the work place. U.S. News & World Report rates WMU among the best national universities and among the top 30 in the Midwest, while the Princeton Review includes the school on its annual online list of the Best Midwestern Colleges.

With an enrollment of just over 25,000, the University is big enough to provide the resources of a large research institution and still small enough to allow students one-on-one interaction with some of the world’s leading scholars. Students may choose from more than 230 academic programs—140 of them at the undergraduate level, and many are among the top such programs in the nation. WMU is recognized around the country as one of the best places to study in disciplines ranging from jazz studies, engineering management and creative writing to marketing, aviation, audiology and supply chain management.

Complex, vibrant and centered on the learner
Because it has a vibrant graduate component that includes 29 doctoral degree programs as well as a medical school now under development, WMU attracts faculty members who have well-established research and teaching careers. They’re literally generating cutting-edge knowledge to share in the classroom. But despite the University’s size and complexity, students who attend WMU expect and receive personal attention from senior-level faculty. Home to one of the nation’s oldest honors programs, WMU is also one of only 100 public universities in the United States authorized to have its own chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, America’s most prestigious undergraduate honor society.

Campus instructional facilities are state of the art and range from a facility for the Haworth College of Business that has the feel of a modern corporate headquarters to a 400,000-square-foot engineering complex surrounded by private firms that are partners in WMU’s Business Technology and Research Park. The most recent additions to the campus include a high-tech and sustainable home for the College of Health and Human Services, a new instructional building for chemistry, and the Richmond Center for Visual Arts.
