Our main campus is in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, just 45 minutes north of the Mackinac Bridge on the Ontario border. We also have regional centers in Dearborn, Escanaba, Gaylord, and Petoskey.
"Lakers" interact directly with professors in classes and labs and collaborate on research projects equivalent to what graduate students might do – but at the undergraduate level. Our students can specialize in career preparation that includes a unique and broad variety of degree programs.
LSSU offers a bachelor of science degree in Criminal Justice--Homeland Security, the only BS in Homeland Security offered in Michigan, along with an Environmental Health degree that is the only accredited bachelor's degree program in the state, and an associate's degree in Marine Technology, the first of its kind in Michigan. Interested in Geology? Our program is a hands-on, project-centered curriculum that was designed through the National Science Foundation. A marquee program at LSSU, Robotics and Automation is a concentration available for all majors and we are one of only two universities in the U.S. to offer this specialization.
On campus, you will have access to state-of-the-art labs, including an aquatic research laboratory and environmental analysis laboratory, both of which provide excellent research opportunities. Outside, you will have much to explore, including the Cambrian Mountains, miles of shoreline, and tens of thousands of acres of forestlands. Whether in the beautiful outdoors or inside, you will discover plenty of ways to remain busy at Lake State. Students are engaged both professionally and socially in over 60 clubs and organizations that develop leadership and team-building skills that are sought in the workplace. Your life on campus includes team and club sports, fine and performing arts, and the popular Student Activity Center, a well-equipped facility whether you run the rubberized track, dive into the pool, hit a ball, or lift weights.
