The University of Iowa2 Plus 2, I-Chart add up to smooth UI transfer IOWA CITY, IA—Giorgio D’Addezio wanted to be a Hawkeye, and The University of Iowa wanted to help transfer students begin planning earlier. Enter the 2 Plus 2 Guaranteed Graduation Plan, and UI Transfer Advisor Dave Malott suddenly had a way to make everyone happy. D’Addezio, who is from Italy, heard about 2 Plus 2 from an advisor at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. He quickly discovered the plan is ideal for students pursuing business, social work, and about 15 other Iowa majors. “The admission officers at Iowa were incredible,” he said. “Dave (Malott) helped me figure out the classes I had to take, and which classes were transferable, in order to earn bachelor’s degrees in business management and Asian languages and literatures. “Without this help, I could have taken numerous classes that weren’t required and wasted a lot of money and time,” D’Addezio added. 2 Plus 2 saves you time The 2 Plus 2 plan is designed for all Iowa community college students who intend to transfer to UI after earning an AA degree. Participants who sign up before their second year of community college—and who follow the degree-planning checkpoints—are guaranteed a UI bachelor’s degree after just two more years of study. Participants also enjoy immediate access to the UI library and career center, plus early registration for their first classes. Since the program was introduced in 2007, more than 300 students have participated, and more than 20 have earned scholarships valued at $1,000 a year for up to two years. I-Chart identifies the right courses In July 2008, the university unveiled another great resource for Iowa community college students: the I-Chart Transfer Planning Resource. It helps students determine how their community college course work will apply toward a specific Iowa degree. “I-Chart helps answer the number one question we get most often from transfer students: ‘How will my credits transfer?’” Malott said. “It is a great resource for students who know they want to transfer to Iowa, and who know which major they want. I-Chart explains which requirements they’ve already met, plus the requirements they need to meet. It’s another way to avoid making costly mistakes when selecting courses.” For more details about 2 Plus 2, visit www.uiowa.edu/2plus2.
