Iowa Wesleyan College

Why you should attend Iowa Wesleyan College.

Iowa Wesleyan College understands the issues transfer students face when deciding where to continue their education – they know money is a factor. At Iowa Wesleyan College they offer academic, athletic and need-based scholarships. Ninety-five percent of its student body is receiving financial assistance – totaling over $14-million awarded annually. Transfer academic merit scholarships, ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 are awarded to students starting with a 2.0 GPA and above. Students can calculate the amount of their academic merit scholarship by visiting www.iwc.edu/admission.

“I came to IWC because of the extra financial aid opportunities offered by the school,” said Nikkia Pyle, a graphic design transfer-student from an Illinois college. “It was cheaper to go out of state than it was to stay in Illinois.”

Pyle also explained she likes Iowa Wesleyan College because of the people. “IWC is not too big and not too small,” said Pyle, “Everyone knows who you are – you’re not a number.”  The student to professor ratio at Iowa Wesleyan College is 12:1 and there are no teacher assistants. Its size allows for direct entry programs with no separate application for each individual major and there is no wait list for the classes students want to take.

Sharaya Wright, an education transfer student from a four-year institution in Missouri, liked the ease of the transfer process and the fact all of her credits transferred over. “The admissions staff was very helpful and took care of everything, making the transition here stress-free,” said Wright, “I was worried about my credits transferring, but they did – all of them.” Iowa Wesleyan College takes up to 64 credits from a two-year institution and those transferring with an A.A. or A.S. degree start with junior status.

Money aside, the majority of transfer students also believe the best thing about coming to Iowa Wesleyan College is the community. “There is a strong support system here – not only from those at IWC – but also from Mount Pleasant,” said Brittney Wilson, a basketball player and sports management transfer student from Iowa Lakes Community College, IA, “The whole city embraces you.”

Bryan Abihider, a football player and physical education transfer student from San Jacinto College, CA agrees with Wilson and enjoys going to school with a community that includes students from 27 different countries. “Every class is a cultural experience when you’re studying with people from all over the place,” said Abihider, “You’re challenged to see different sides, think outside of your own backyard – IWC has become my home.”
