University of Wisconsin - Platteville

UW-Platteville is your affordable choice!

The Tri-State Initiative continues to offer more affordable tuition rates to students from Iowa and Illinois at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Under this plan, eligible students in certain degree areas will receive a savings of approximately $4,000 on out-of-state tuition rates, making UWP tuition comparable to rates at public universities in Iowa and Illinois.

UWP accepts coursework from all properly accredited four-year and two-year institutions. Illinois Community College transfers who have completed the associate degree in science or arts will be given special consideration and will have met UWP general education requirements.  In addition, UWP accepts the Associate of Arts or Science degrees from Northeast Iowa Community College, Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, and Kirkwood Community to meet the majority of general education requirements.

Most UWP degree programs are covered under the initiative. Some of the fields included under the initiative are: engineering, manufacturing, building construction, computer science, business, agriculture, criminal justice and education.

The new micro electrical mechanical systems and nanotechnology program offered at UWP includes a 24-credit minor. Professors in disciplines ranging from biology, chemistry, physics and engineering, teach the minor.

The 430-acre Pioneer Farm supports research projects such as the runoff monitoring stations located in the fields and the managed intensive grazing system set up in the livestock pasture. Students at UWP gain hands-on experience at the dairy, beef and swine centers also located on the farm. Robotic milkers are a sample of the latest farm technology that students can utilize at the farm.

UW-Platteville’s industrial studies program is supported by a plastics processing technology center equipped with over $1 million worth of plastics equipment, making it one of the best equipped in the upper Midwest.

UWP is also in the process of establishing the foremost university-level program for forensic investigation in the state of Wisconsin. UWP is one of 14 institutions of higher learning in the country, and the only one in the tri-state area to have access to the AFIX Tracker automated fingerprint identification network.

Faculty, staff and administrators at UWP are excited about the opportunity to offer their programs to its neighbors in Iowa and Illinois at the Tri-State Initiative tuition rates.
